WARNING THIS IS A PLAY-BY-PLAY ENTRY... IT IS LONG AND POINTLESS.
So, I'm in Chicago right now. I'm here for the Shift Conference at Willow Creek. It starts tomorrow morning but we came up a day early to catch a day in the city. I'm here with Patrick Harrison and we're having a ball. Perhaps tomorrow I'll have some insightful and challenging message to give you after being inspired and challenged by our sessions and workshops... but for tonight I'll tell you a litlte about my day.
So early this morning we got up in Raliegh. We stay with will and Emily Chancellor last night. They were great on last minute call. Will took us to the airport and we patiently waited for the plane for like 2 hours. When it got there We found that it was only like a 50 seater so it's the smallest plane I've ever flown in. It wasn't really bad at all... Patrick and I played pool on his PDA for most of the trip. Then I listed to some Thousand Foot Krutch and we landed. We left at 930....flew for 2 hours and landed at like 10:15... yeah, we found a glitch in the space-time-continuum (Chigago is an hour behind Greenville if you didn't get that un scientific joke)
So after landing and fighting for our rental car with the lady who didn't like her job we checked into our hotel and hit the town.
First stop...Hot Dougs.
A Lindsey Recomended and Rachael Ray approved hotdoggery. This joint was hoppin. The line was out the door and apparently their somewhat of a regional hot spot. I went with the "The Dog"
which is a "classic Chicago hotdog. It was bangin! (to borrow a euphemism from my days in Norfolk) That plus a small fry and drink rang me up to a woppin $4.50 and let me tell you, it was worth every economically savvy penny. These were funny bathroom signs

After that we drove to Wrigley Field and to a Starbucks (across the street) there where they had free parking.

Next we took off down town. We didn't know what we wanted to do because parking is mad expensive and then we saw a great deal... the lincoln zoo! One... Free Admission. Two... free parking. Bingo! We had plans. So Pat and I hit up the zoo. At first we were reluctant and alittle judgemental because it was cold and the first few exhibits we looked at were animal-less. Which=not a fun zoo experience. Then we saw the Lions. They were great.... before we knew it we discovered that the lincoln zoo has quite a bit to off in the realm of awesome animals to oogle at. We went to the Primate House... where there were tons of monkey varieties. We saw some sweet gorillas... this one that was like a stinkin King Kong greyback. Ummm... there was a cool manatee.... a whole jungle house/rain forest place that had cool birds and stuff... any way we spent a few hours at the zoo and then decided to move on.

Next we decided to get brave and just go right into the thick of down town. Ive got to admit it was much calmer than NY...I mean, a bustling city but nothing like the big apple. So we decided to choke it up and park.... 26 dollars! for 3 hours! But we had budgeted some of our conference money for stuff like that...so it's all good.
We walked all over downtown in the rain...the cold rain. Patrick was in a track jacket...he was cold...I had on my ski coat... so I was cool...(haha, sorry pat)
We went to the Harley store to see if I could get anything for my dad. (Sorry everyone but I don't plan on getting presents for EVERYONE basically only if I see something real inexpensive that just screams your name... so any gifting will be random.) The non-giftees are free to look at my pictures and call me a cheapskate. Which brings me to my point. My dad's a big Harley guy so I thought I might find him somthing that said Chicago Harley or something.... So I walk in...look at some $300 coats and $200 dollar pants and say...nope...nothing for dad.... but then I saw a little lighter for 99 cents that said Harley Store Chicago on it. The girl rang me up (it was 1.08) and as I got the money out I just said "I think I have eight cents." You know, it's nice to get rid of some change. To which she replied, "that's cool, I've got it." TO which I replied, "cool thanks" and I handed her a dollar. And that's when she said... "no, it's cool, you can just have it"... and she gave me the lighter and my dollar and said, "have a nice day".... Weird. So i put it in my pocket and walked out. Nice girl. I think she wanted my digits... but y'all know i don't roll like that. (Yeah, right, I think she might have thought I was a homeless guy who just needed a light.)
Next, we hit up some Chicago Stuffed Pizza,
which I've decided is NOT my favorite by any stretch of the imagination. If you haven't had it...imagive a 2 inch block of cheese sitting on a pie crust and covered in sauce. The taste was great but it's just too much cheese for a man to choke down in one sitting. But I enjoyed the meal thoroughly nonetheless.
Uh... what else. One more stop at Starbucks (it was COLD!) And then back on the road. It took a while to get back to the hotel. It's like 20 miles and there was rain and traffic and lights and such...
Oh, and then we stopped at Target,
of all places, to get some sustinance for the hotel room.... i got a Pepsi and some Mike and Ikes. Which I haven't opened yet because I ate seven pounds of cheese for supper.
Now....I'm writing a really long blog about my day.
You can check out my myspace for all the pics and possibly several videos from my day in Chicago.
Tune in tomorrow for some more spiritual ramblings.
Peace.
